Soon Android users won’t have to rely on Google Drive because of the new option of transferring WhatsApp Chats without Google Drive while changing devices.
WhatsApp chats can be important for all of us. They hold special memories, important details and so on. If you’re someone who changes devices often, you’d know how crucial it is to backup WhatsApp chats so that you won’t lose them.
But until now, the only way you could do that was to use Google Drive. And if you didn’t have a Google account, this was not an option either. But it seems like this is going to be optional.WhatsApp has introduced its brand new local chat migration feature. Using this feature you can transfer WhatsApp Chats without Google Drive. While it’s still being tested, we assume that it’s soon going to be available on Android beta version 2.23.9.19.
As per some sources, you will be able to transfer chats between Android devices without Google Drive. Instead, all you have to do is sign into your account on the new device and scan the QR code.
While Google Drive backup is still an option it’s not the fastest nor the easiest option. You have to manually backup your WhatsApp chats to Google Drive. Then you have to allow WhatsApp to access storage and media devices on your new device.
Then only you’ll be able to retrieve your chats. Even after that you have to wait till the chats are restored. And for that you’ll need a good WiFi connection and a lot of patience.
On top of that, this only works if you’re transferring chats between two Android devices. If it’s any other combination, like iOS, you’ll need a different transferring tool for WhatsApp.
But with this new local chat migration feature, things are a lot easier. Even if you live in a remote area, you can transfer WhatsApp Chats without Google Drive without much trouble.
While this new feature of transferring WhatsApp Chats without Google Drive is advantageous for us, it is as important for WhatsApp too. Because Google Drive backup is not protected by end-to-end encryption. So having their own backup feature helps WhatsApp to live up to its name.
It’s expected that this new WhatsApp local chat migration feature is going to be better than Google Drive backup. However we’ll have to wait a few months until it’s released. So that we can see for ourselves.
