WhatsApp has recently rolled out a new privacy feature to protect users’ IP addresses during calls

WhatsApp has recently rolled out a new privacy feature to protect users’ IP addresses during calls. This feature is aimed at enhancing user privacy by hiding their IP address and location from third-party threat actors. The feature is called “Protect IP address in calls” and is available on the latest WhatsApp beta for Android and iOS.

The new feature works by routing calls through WhatsApp’s servers, making it more difficult for people to track the user’s location during a WhatsApp call. The feature is designed to enhance the privacy of the user’s location information during calls.

Even if the user enables the Protect IP address in calls feature on WhatsApp, all their calls will be protected via end-to-end encryption, meaning no one, including WhatsApp, will be able to listen to their conversation.

The new toggle is available on WhatsApp in a new section called “Advanced,” placed within the privacy settings screen, which contains the option Protect IP address in calls. However, the toggle may not be visible to all users on the beta version of the app, and the company plans to make it available to everyone in the future.

It is important to note that the feature may affect call quality due to a slight delay introduced by routing calls through WhatsApp’s servers. Other details are not that knee yet, but it is expected to be a life saver for many.

India is witnessing a surge in cyber fraud cases, and WhatsApp is becoming a common ground for scammers to spread their tricks. Therefore, this new Protect IP address in calls feature on WhatsApp is pretty useful, as it will prevent malicious threat actors from getting the user’s location and eavesdropping on calls.
WhatsApp’s new feature “Protect IP address in calls” is a significant step towards enhancing user privacy and security. By routing calls through WhatsApp’s servers, the feature makes it more difficult for people to track the user’s location during a WhatsApp call. Although the feature may affect call quality, it is a small price to pay for enhanced privacy and security.
