TikTok said it has broadened its US user base as it announced Android users can download the app from its official website, while the app is nowhere to be seen on major platforms like Google Play Store and Apple App Store in the wake of several legislative actions recently.

Download Directly Without the Apps Still Not Available
As of January 19, 2025, a law in the U.S. directs ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, to wind up its operation in the country on national security grounds or suffer a ban. As a result, neither Google nor Apple have reinstated the app on either of their application stores. For this reason, TikTok offers APKs through its website that users can use to download the app and install it directly from the website.
User Security Ends
Though sideloading apps can be dangerous, TikTok assures users that the app is safe and secure. The company continues to claim that its source code is being reviewed by Oracle and independent security inspectors to ensure the integrity of the app.
A Temporary Solution for Android Users
This direct download method is only a temporary measure for Android users who want to access TikTok since the app is not available on major app stores. For iPhone users, though, it is still impossible to download the app because of Apple's ban on sideloading. iPhone users can access TikTok via a web browser and wait for the app's possible return to the App Store.
As the situation evolves, TikTok's direct download option provides a lifeline for Android users eager to continue creating, discovering, and connecting on the platform.
