Apple has released the first beta versions of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 to public beta users. The new software was first introduced at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June. While three betas have been developed so far, the first public beta of iOS 17 offers the same content as the third developer beta. The iOS 17 is set to release in September.
Public beta testers who are part of the Apple Beta Software Program can download the iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 by,
- Opening up the Settings app
- Tapping on the Software Update section
- Toggling the iOS 17 Public Beta Option
Communication is a crucial focus of iOS 17 as the Phone app has been overhauled. You can now create Contact Posters that your contacts can see when you call them. It is available for both the Phone app and third-party apps. Voicemails will also be transcribed in real-time with the Live Voicemail feature. You can decide to pick up the phone based on what’s said. Calls marked as spam will be declined instantly and won’t appear on Live Voicemail.

The new NameDrop lets your iPhone exchange information with another iPhone in close proximity. This is compatible with Apple Watch as well. You can also bring two iPhones together to activate SharePlay to listen to music, watch a movie, play games, or transfer content.
FaceTime now supports audio and video messages, enabling others to leave video or audio recordings in case you dont pick up. It also supports Reactions which will also work in third-party apps. The Messaging app has a cleaner interface, and your Apple device can also link to the Apple TV 4K for FaceTime on the TV.
Apple has added a machine learning model across iOS 17, effectively improving the autocorrect feature. It can also fill entire sentences with inline predictions, correct mistakes easier and has a more accurate speech recognition model.
The public release of iOS 17 will also bring a Journal app designed to record your thoughts and ideas. There will be topic suggestions, and you can track your daily activities. All content will be protected and even password protected. Even the Health app has a mood-tracking feature that records your mood. Apple also offers anxiety and depression assessments that help determine if you are at risk of mental decline.
