Google has made a decision to integrate AI tools into its search engine in light of the huge impact AI technology has on the world. Alphabet Inc. has been leading this technological revolution with its ambitious AI-driven projects.
Furthermore, the South Korean smartphone company, Samsung’s decision to replace Google with Microsoft Bing as its default search engine has prompted Alphabet Inc. to hit the “panic” button. This is mainly because Bing has been an optional search engine for years.
Thus, these latest developments have prompted Google to bring an AI tool to their search engine despite Google already having a Bard chatbot. According to reports, Google is also updating their search engines with an array of AI features. All these new projects and updates are being carried out under the name Project Magi with around 160 employees.
Project Magi, in addition to integrating AI tools into the Google search engine, is paving the way for a slew of new features. The executive designers and engineers steering the project, with the stakeholders of the company, are working in “sprint mode”. The new Google AI integrated search engine being shaped under Project Magi will give a much more personalised experience than with the current version.
It must be noted that these plans to reimagine the search experience are in their infancy, with no clear timeline known about the potential announcements. But according to reports, Google’s AI search engine would resemble Chat GPT, the search experience being conversational and helpful.
The reports have also stated that Google plans to add some AI features into the existing search engine before it is completely modified. The new features will include helping users getting answers on coding and writing code based on prompts.
The same report has stated that earlier this month, some Google staff were asked to test and give their feedback on some of the new AI integrated search engine. If the reports are to be believed, Google may unveil the AI integrated search engine to the public in May.
In addition, Google plans to release to one million users at first, and will progressively release to 30 million users by the end of 2023. But for now, it seems that the Google AI integrated search engine will be exclusively available in the US
